My life-long friend, now with Jesus, prayed for years that God would give her a slow death. Huh? Yes. She wanted an illness leading to death that gave her time to testify more about the Lord she loved. She wanted opportunities during a health crisis to show the world the love and power of God. She desired to show others how to love God and people in a hard time.
God granted her prayer.
During her time with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), she was given opportunities to speak to new groups and people, to write a book, to love her family and friends, some of whom became more fervent for the Lord.
Her situation was dramatic, but the basic lesson is true for all of us: Whatever we are going through, IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT US!
How we handle trouble is a powerful testimony to the Lord who loves us and who enables us.
Closer to home: the trial you are in affects those around you. Your illness impacts others. They also have God-given lessons in your trial.
